Black artists and promoters in London face nightlife licensing discrimination, say Black Lives in Music
The Black Lives in Music organization has revealed systemic discrimination faced by Black and ethnic minority artists in London's nightlife licensing practices. Accusations were made that councils and police are perpetuating a racist narrative which results in unfair restrictions and cancellations of events catering to these communities. Challenges include difficulty in securing gigs, excessive policing, and disproportionate impact on cultural events, which threatens the viability of London's night economy. A call for awareness and changes in policy was emphasized during an inquiry by the London Assembly.
