In a significant move within the music distribution sector, UK distributors Secretly Distribution, Beggars Group, and Cargo Records have established a partnership to form the new entity Cargo Independent Distribution (CID). This collaboration aims to enhance the distribution capabilities for a range of independent labels under the CID umbrella.
Phil Hill, the founder and CEO of Cargo Records, has been appointed to lead CID and will retain a controlling interest in the company. With this new distribution group, CID will take charge of UK distribution for Cargo's diverse roster, which includes notable labels such as Fire Records, Hyperdub, Planet Mu, Teklife, Merge Records, and Sub Pop.
Additionally, CID will provide physical distribution and sales support for Secretly Group, which encompasses labels like Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, Saddest Factory, and Secretly Canadian. CID's role will also extend to sales representation for the Beggars Group and its partner labels, including XL Recordings, Young, Rough Trade, Matador, and 4AD.
Expressing enthusiasm about the new venture, Phil Hill stated, "All of us at Cargo are really excited for our new partnership with two of the most important independent music companies in the world, who continue to remain fiercely independent and committed to preserving a totally independent UK distribution outlet." This strategic alliance is set to strengthen the position of independent labels in the UK market, fostering enhanced collaboration and distribution processes.
