Devin Townsend has released a new single titled "Jainism" from his forthcoming album, PowerNerd, due out on October 25 through InsideOut Music. The single showcases Townsend's reflective style, recalling his early 90s experiences while working with artists like Steve Vai and touring with The Wildhearts. In a statement, Townsend explained that the song captures his connection to music during that era and articulates the challenges of expressing oneself artistically in an unresponsive world today.
PowerNerd is set to be the first installment of a trilogy, followed by two more albums, The Moth, which promises an orchestral and dark exploration, and Axolotl, characterized by its alien themes. "Jainism" pays homage to his past in the music scene, as Townsend noted, "I referenced The Wildhearts in the chorus, as Ginger is one of our generation’s greatest songwriters."
Fans can expect a variety of formats for PowerNerd, including a limited edition 2CD+Blu-ray artbook and gatefold vinyl, with pre-orders now available. Further information about Townsend's work and complete details on the trilogy can be found at Devin Townsend's official page.
