English Teacher win Mercury Prize
English Teacher, a band based in Leeds, has won the Mercury Prize for their debut album 'This Could Be Texas'. This marks a significant achievement as they are the first northern act to win since Young Fathers in 2014. The judges praised their originality and the album's fresh take on the traditional guitar band format. English Teacher, formed in 2020, is noted for their unique sound that combines elements of pastoral prog, post-rock, and post-punk, complemented by engaging melodies and lyrics from lead singer Lily Fontaine.
