A new six-part documentary series titled DJ Mehdi: Made In France has been released on Arte, exploring the life and musical journey of the late DJ Mehdi. This series is both directed and written by Thibaut de Longeville, showcasing unseen archival footage as well as personal tributes from various influential figures in the music industry, including Busy P, Justice, and Cassius.

The documentary delves into the evolution of DJ Mehdi, born Mehdi Favris-Essadi. Initially emerging from the French rap community, he produced for well-known artists such as Kery James, 113, African Mafia, and Booba before transitioning into the electronic music scene during the rise of French touch. His distinctive sound emerged from a fusion of hip hop and electronic music, setting him apart as a pioneer of his era.

DJ Mehdi, a longtime collaborator with Ed Banger Records, is remembered for his significant tracks such as "Signature," "Lucky Boy," and "Pocket Piano." Unfortunately, he lost his life in a tragic accident in 2011 at the age of 34.

Alongside the music producers, the documentary features emotional accounts from Mehdi's family, including his mother, Latifa Essadi, cousin Myriam Essadi, and his wife, Fafi. The series serves as a heartfelt homage to a creator whose impact on music is described as revolutionary. Busy P, reflecting on his legacy, stated that Mehdi was a "revolution" in his own right, urging audiences to discover the profound influences he had on both rap and electronic genres.
