In recent comments made to Forbes, KISS vocalist and bassist Gene Simmons has expressed his thoughts on the ongoing debate surrounding a potential reunion of the iconic band The Smiths. This statement comes in light of claims made by Morrissey that guitarist Johnny Marr declined a lucrative offer from AEG Entertainment Group for a reunion tour set for 2025.

Morrissey had publicly stated that he was open to the reunion but noted that it was Marr's refusal that has prevented the band's revival. The Smiths' legacy remains significant, yet Marr's actions have led to speculation regarding the band's future, particularly following Morrissey’s recent announcement of a largely sold-out U.S. tour in November.

Gene Simmons criticized Marr’s decision to block a proposed 'Greatest Hits' album, contending that most people wouldn't recognize Marr's name if asked, saying, "If you go down the street and ask the general person, 'Who's Johnny Marr?' they won't know who you're talking about." He further remarked on the absurdity of turning down an offer in the range of $100 million, calling it "lunacy."

The conversation around The Smiths was framed within a broader context, as Simmons discussed Morrissey’s ongoing label struggles regarding the release of his latest album, "Bonfire Of The Teenagers." According to Simmons, Morrissey possesses the right to express his opinions, regardless of the controversies that occasionally arise in the industry.

Simmons concluded by suggesting that Morrissey will ultimately navigate his situation successfully, citing his financial stability as a factor.
