Justin Timberlake has pled guilty in New York to driving while ability impaired (DWAI) following a drunk driving incident in June. In court, Timberlake faced a reduced charge after originally being indicted on the more serious misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated (DWI). As part of the guilty plea, he was fined $500 and required to complete 25-40 hours of community service. He must also undergo a public safety announcement addressing the dangers of impaired driving.

The incident occurred when Timberlake was observed weaving in and out of his lane and failing to stop at a stop sign. Arresting officers noted his bloodshot eyes and administered a field sobriety test, which Timberlake did not pass. Timberlake's attorney, Ed Burke, has maintained that the singer was not intoxicated at the time of the arrest, alleging that the system was unjustly stringent on him.

After the ruling, Timberlake released a statement expressing regret, emphasizing the importance of responsible judgment when consuming alcohol. He responded directly to the court's requirements with a public message stating, "Even if you had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car. There's so many alternatives." This admonishment comes amidst growing scrutiny over the leniency of such sentences for celebrities, with many fans commenting on the perceived disparity in treatment based on status. Many have taken to social media to express their views on the matter, with sentiments ranging from condemnation to skepticism regarding his celebrity privilege.
