The legacy of the Miles Davis Quintet continues to expand with the announcement of the upcoming release of Miles In France: Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8. Slated for a worldwide release on November 8, 2024, this collection adds over four hours of previously unreleased music from two pivotal years in the jazz legend's career.

This set includes the live debut of the Miles Davis Quintet featuring George Coleman in 1963, transitioning into the 'Second Great Quintet' with Wayne Shorter established in 1964. The six-CD and eight-LP set encapsulates live performances recorded at the Festival Mondial Du Jazz in Antibes, France, on July 26-28, 1963, and the concert at Salle Pleyel in Paris on October 1, 1964, showcasing the refinement of the ensemble's sound during this transformative period.

Significantly, the latter concert features performances by the Second Great Quintet, including notable artists Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, marking their second concert together. This release comes after Davis's long-standing connection with France, a country where he performed frequently and released significant works throughout his career.

Produced by Steve Berkowitz, Michael Cuscuna, and Richard Seidel, and mastered by Vic Anesini at Battery Studios in New York City, Miles In France promises to shed light on a previously unrepresented era in Davis's extensive discography. Music listeners can get a preview of the set with a never-before-heard version of "So What" available on various streaming platforms. Preorders are currently open for both physical and digital formats through links provided by the official Miles Davis site.
