Musician accused of using bots to generate over $10 million in streaming revenue

A North Carolina musician, Michael Smith, has been indicted for allegedly using AI bots to generate over $10 million in fraudulent music streaming revenue. The US Attorney's Office states that he created hundreds of thousands of AI-generated songs and streamed them billions of times using 10,000 bot accounts, in collaboration with an anonymous AI music company. If found guilty, Smith may face decades in prison for stealing royalties from legitimate musicians and rights holders.
