Sakari Oramo extends his contract as BBC Symphony Orchestra chief conductor to 2030
Sakari Oramo's contract as chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra has been extended until 2030, coinciding with the orchestra's centenary. Under his leadership, the orchestra has focused on diverse repertoire and will move to a new home at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, aiming to engage with the local community. Oramo will conduct the Last Night of the Proms featuring two world premieres, and the autumn/winter season will start at the Barbican with Mahler's Sixth Symphony.
