Ted Nugent has publicly responded to Pearl Jam’s recent cover of his classic track "Stranglehold," performed during a concert in Baltimore on September 12, 2024. During the concert at CFG Bank Arena, lead vocalist Eddie Vedder ad-libbed lyrics that reflected his anti-gun stance, stating, "I don't own a gun, I don't ever want to own a gun," following the song’s signature guitar riff played by Mike McCready.

After the performance, Nugent took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with Vedder's remarks. He described them as symptomatic of what he calls "insane liberal policies." In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nugent stated, "Hey Eddie join me on my RAV [Real America’s Voice] spirit campfire to discuss how your insane liberal policies have created an explosion in engineered violent recidivism while you fight to disarm helpless innocent citizens."

Nugent's comments align with his long-standing advocacy for gun rights. He has previously argued that the U.S. does not have a gun problem but rather challenges within its judicial system that allows violent offenders back into society.

In contrast, Pearl Jam has been vocal about their opposition to gun violence over the years. Following the 2018 Parkland school shooting, they released the single "Can't Deny Me," which addressed advocacy efforts for gun control. The band consistently integrates themes of social justice into their music and live shows, clearly articulating their stances on various issues.

The exchange between Nugent and Pearl Jam highlights the deeply polarized views surrounding gun control in America. Furthermore, Nugent's recent remarks coincide with the release of his new song "Who Shot Trump," featuring his son, Rocco, which also touches on political themes and expresses support for Donald Trump. As the dialogue persists, speculation arises regarding future developments from both parties involved.
