The Kills have unveiled a soulful cover of Billie Eilish's 2021 hit, "Happier Than Ever," which will be featured on their upcoming EP titled Happier Girls Sessions. This cover was initially performed during an acoustic session for US radio station Sirius XM last year. The duo, composed of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, has reimagined the track at Paul Epworth's Church Studios in London. The Happier Girls Sessions EP, containing five tracks, includes non-electric versions of songs from their latest album God Games, which was co-produced by Epworth and Hince. The EP is set to be released on September 20, 2024, via Domino. A special seven-inch vinyl edition will be available for pre-order, scheduled for release on November 8.
Mosshart shared insights into the origins of this cover, crediting Sirius XM for the opportunity that led to this reimagining. She mentioned her fondness for the song, stating, "I'd always really dug 'Happier Than Ever' and found myself singing it around the house all the time." The EP will feature other non-electric tracks such as 'My Girls My Girls', '103', 'New York', and 'Better Days'. The Kills previously toured the UK in support of God Games and performed alongside LCD Soundsystem at London’s All Points East last month. They are also set to embark on a US tour next month, with tickets available through Ticketmaster. Check out the EP’s artwork and tracklist below as fans await its release.
