The Postal Service has announced that they are going on an indefinite hiatus following the conclusion of their current tour. This announcement was made via social media on September 16, just a few days before their final show at HFStival in Washington, DC, scheduled for September 21.

In a heartfelt statement, band leader Ben Gibbard expressed gratitude to fans for their support throughout the "Transatlanticism/Give Up" tour, saying, “getting the opportunity to perform these two albums live has been one of the greatest thrills and honors of my entire life.” He added, “We will see you all again somewhere down the road.”

This tour, celebrating the 20th anniversaries of both the band's only studio album, "Give Up", and Death Cab For Cutie's seminal album, "Transatlanticism", has seen the two bands co-headlining since 2023. Notably, this marks the second reunion of The Postal Service, who previously reunited in 2013 for the album's 10th anniversary.

The band only released one live album, "Everything Will Change", in 2020. Gibbard has indicated that a new Postal Service album is unlikely, citing the time commitments of his primary band, Death Cab For Cutie. In a conversation with NME last month, he stated, "there is just not enough time, let alone creative juices flowing, to make a suitable follow-up [to 'Give Up']."

While fans may feel the absence of new material from The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie's last album, "Asphalt Meadows", was released two years ago and remains well-received. For now, fans are encouraged to catch the final show of this significant tour before the band embarks on its indefinite hiatus. Tickets for the last performance can be found here: Ticketmaster.
