The Willis Patterson Our Own Thing Chorale, a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has opened a new opportunity for a part-time Music Director. The position is tailored for individuals with a visionary approach to music that engages singers, musicians, and audiences alike, with an emphasis on a rich repertoire that includes traditional African American spirituals as well as contemporary compositions by African Americans and artists from the diaspora.

The selected Music Director will play a crucial role not only in musical performance but also in community engagement. Among the responsibilities, the Music Director will conduct weekly in-person rehearsals from September through June, alongside preparing for a minimum of two annual concerts and additional special events. The position also involves fostering the growth of chorale members as musicians and collaborating with other musicians and the chorale's Board.

A strong commitment to the preservation and performance of Negro Spirituals and a deep respect for African American choral music is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse adult choir with varying musical skills and show proficiency in utilizing current technology.
