In a surprising turn of events, legendary drummer Bill Bruford has come out of retirement to join the UK jazz ensemble, Pete Roth Trio. After stepping back from performing publicly in 2009, Bruford’s re-entry into the live music scene is generating buzz among fans and musicians alike.
Bruford, known for his work with renowned bands such as Yes and King Crimson, retired from live performances and recordings following his last gig with his Earthworks band in July 2008. His retirement allowed him to pursue a PhD in Music from the University of Surrey and author his autobiography, "Bill Bruford: The Autobiography. Yes, King Crimson, Earthworks and More." Despite his lengthy hiatus from live music, Bruford made a brief appearance in 2023 at the John Wetton Tribute Concert, where he performed alongside notable musicians including Phil Manzanera and Guy Pratt.
The Pete Roth Trio, which describes its music as "Jazz without borders," aims to present a modern take on jazz by expanding beyond traditional conventions. The band utilizes opportunities to play with various musical ideas, claiming they approach jazz in a way that is innovative and unconventionally.
Pete Roth Trio will be touring soon, with scheduled performances in various venues across the UK including Guildford, Kingston, and London.
