Father John Misty has revealed details surrounding his upcoming sixth studio album titled 'Mahashmashana', set for release on November 22, 2024, through Bella Union and Sub Pop. This album follows his 2022 release, 'Chlo and The Next 20th Century'. The title 'Mahashmashana' is derived from a Sanskrit term meaning a great cemetery or cremation ground, setting a profound tone for the record.

The album will feature eight tracks, including the newly released single 'Screamland', which spans an impressive seven minutes. This track features contributions from Alan Sparhawk of Low on guitar, paired with a lush string arrangement by long-time collaborator Drew Erikson. The single's music video, directed by Estefania Krl, is described as a visual exploration into the depths of 'Screamland', intending to encapsulate the essence of the music and its creators.

In addition to the album announcement, Father John Misty has also detailed an extensive tour across the UK and Europe scheduled for April 2025. The tour will include a performance at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

The full tracklist of 'Mahashmashana' includes:
