Father John Misty (Joshua Tillman) has unveiled his latest single titled 'Screamland,' a key track from his anticipated sixth studio album, 'Mahashmashana.' The song was released on September 17, 2024, across various digital streaming platforms and is just under seven minutes long. The studio version of another song, 'She Cleans Up,' was also released alongside 'Screamland,' which had been showcased live earlier this month.
In 'Screamland,' Tillman employs vivid imagery, singing lines that probe into fidelity and life’s realities: "Stabbing at the ashtray like it might give up the truth…" This is complemented with a powerful refrain invoking themes of youth and dreams. The track is complemented by a vertically-shot music video directed by Estefania Krl, which fans can view online.
Both 'Screamland' and 'She Cleans Up' will feature on 'Mahashmashana,' set to be released on November 22 via Sub Pop/Bella Union. The album, co-produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson, promises to bring forward a musical exploration similar to his previous work, 'Chlo And The Next 20th Century.' The complete tracklist includes songs such as 'Mental Health' and 'Being You,' among others.
Ahead of the album launch, fans who pre-order the album by September 23 will gain early access to Tillman's upcoming UK and European tour planned for 2025. Currently, Tillman is on tour in North America and hosting several listening events for fans to engage with his work. For more details, you can check his official store and event information.
