The Garth Newel Music Center (GNMC) is currently on the lookout for a dynamic individual to fill the full-time role of Associate Director for Patron Engagement. This newly established position will be working under the guidance of Executive Director Steve Wogaman and alongside a dedicated Board of Directors. The Associate Director will primarily focus on enhancing revenue generation through a comprehensive patron engagement strategy. This includes marketing efforts aimed at raising awareness, encouraging attendance and participation from volunteers, as well as securing donations and major gifts.

The role entails a fast-paced set of responsibilities, necessitating collaboration with various staff members including the Associate Director for Operations, department heads in facilities, culinary arts, and educational programming, as well as the contracted marketing consultant and the members of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet, who serve as the center's Artistic Directors. The ideal candidate will excel at both teamwork and independent work, meeting expectations and deadlines.

Key responsibilities for the Associate Director for Patron Engagement include:

Development (approx. 75%)

  • Development and execution of a comprehensive annual plan for fundraising initiatives targeting individuals, businesses, and foundations.
  • Strategies will involve multichannel solicitation methods including mail, online, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Regularly monitor and report on annual fundraising goals and budget.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Artistic Directors to design mission-based patron engagement programming.
  • Implement a Planned Giving program to foster long-term donor support.
  • Regularly communicate updates to donors and potential donors.
  • Ensure proper data management relating to donor pledges and acknowledgments.
  • Identify and pursue sponsorship and grant opportunities.

Marketing (approx. 25%)

  • Create and evaluate marketing strategies for GNMC’s various audiences.
  • Lead the marketing initiatives to enhance community engagement through all communications channels.
  • Ensure consistency in GNMC branding across various media.
  • Support the production of promotional content to broaden GNMC's recognition.
  • Explore new marketing opportunities and outreach strategies.
  • Act as a spokesperson for GNMC, engaging with media contacts.

Additional Duties:

  • Attend GNMC events to strengthen donor relationships.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Adhere to the GNMC policies regarding confidentiality and operational procedures.

Garth Newel Music Center is committed to enriching lives through inspired chamber music and performing arts experiences. It has been operational since 1973 and is situated on a beautiful 114-acre estate in Bath County, Virginia, hosting over 40 concerts annually, including a Summer Festival. The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate strong organizational skills, a passion for the arts, and relevant experience in development and marketing. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks, travel, and work weekends and evenings as needed.

Compensation includes:

  • Salary ranging from $55,000 to $65,000, accompanied by benefits such as health insurance and retirement matching.
