Irish post-rock band God Is An Astronaut has officially released their eleventh studio album, Embers, on September 6th, 2024, through Napalm Records. Known for their masterful blend of ambient and rock elements, the new album showcases the band's continued evolution since their formation in 2002.

Embers features an extensive production mastered by Streaky, a renowned mastering engineer in Europe. The album comprises tracks that reflect the intricate storytelling and thematic depth typically associated with the band—but with a newfound ambition that sets it apart from their earlier work. Collaborations on the album feature cellist Jo Quail and artist Sean Coleman, who brings ethnic instrumentation such as the sitar and various percussive elements to enrich the soundscape.

The album opens with 'Apparition,' a track that starts simply before transitioning into a heavier stoner riff. The first single, 'Falling Leaves', serves as a poignant introduction to the emotional journey embedded in the album. Notably, 'Odyssey' steps up as a highlight with its repetitive guitar arpeggio transitioning into layers of psychedelic rock.

The title track, 'Embers', stands out for its cinematic storytelling across ten minutes, culminating in a chaotic ensemble that urges listeners to introspect. Additional tracks like 'Realms' and 'Hourglass' revert to a more traditional GIAA sound while bringing closure to the album with delicate instrumentation.

Overall, Embers reflects God Is An Astronaut's trademark capacity for exploration, allowing listeners to engage not just passively, but interpretively, as they navigate the sonic landscapes crafted within. With a score of 9/10, Embers is poised to reinforce the trio's legacy in the post-rock genre. To listen to the album, visit Noizze.
