Jamie xx has rejoined forces with his The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim for a fresh single, titled "Waited All Night," released on September 18, 2024. This marks the first collaborative release from The xx in seven years, since their last studio album, "I See You," dropped back in 2017. The nostalgia of their performance at Glastonbury underlines the bond that the trio shares.
In contrast to The xx's previous works that prominently featured electric guitars and live drums, "Waited All Night" is a vibrant, club-oriented dance track showcasing the dynamic vocal contributions from both Oliver Sim and Romy. Jamie expressed his gratitude, stating, "Thank you to my two best friends and musical siblings, Oliver and Romy. It’s wonderful to have the gang back together, working in new ways. I wouldn't be here without them."
"Waited All Night" serves as the sixth track from Jamie xx's highly anticipated second solo album, "In Waves," set for release on September 20, 2024. The album, which took four years to create, has been described as capturing the "emotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night out."
Since April, Jamie has steadily unveiled singles from the album, including collaborations with notable artists like Honey Dijon, Robyn, and The Avalanches. Recently, he completed a residency at London's Venue MOT, The Floor, showcasing ten nights featuring various artists, including Charli XCX and Jockstrap.
As part of the promotional activities for "In Waves," Jamie xx is gearing up for a world tour, which kicks off in London on September 25 and stretches until December 9 in Sydney, Australia. Fans can listen to "Waited All Night" now and check out the full tour itinerary.
