JD Souther, the acclaimed American singer-songwriter and co-writer of numerous hits for the Eagles, has passed away at the age of 78. His death was confirmed by a representative for the Eagles, who noted that he died peacefully at his home in New Mexico.
Souther was instrumental in the creation of enduring tracks such as "New Kid In Town" and "Heartache Tonight" for the Eagles, as well as Linda Ronstadt's "Faithless Love." He also made a name for himself with his solo work, most notably with the 1979 single "You're Only Lonely." Over the years, Souther collaborated with iconic artists like Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, and the Dixie Chicks, showcasing his versatility as a songwriter.
Prior to his passing, Souther had a busy schedule, recently finishing performances including a show on September 12 at Baby Grand in Wilmington, Delaware, and was set to embark on a tour alongside singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff. In recognition of his contributions to music, Souther was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013.
