Kendrick Lamar has officially released a new track titled "Watch the Party Die" via his Instagram account. This five-minute song marks the first new music from the acclaimed rapper since his previous release, "Not Like Us." The unveiling of this track comes on the heels of Lamar's recent announcement as the headliner for the much-anticipated 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show. This choice has sparked debate among fans.

Some fans argue that fellow rapper Lil Wayne, a native of New Orleans—the location for this year's Super Bowl—would have been a more fitting performer. This sentiment is strengthened by the support from prominent figures in the hip-hop community, such as Nicki Minaj, who have voiced their backing for Lil Wayne, citing his substantial influence over the genre. However, Lamar's supporters contend that his impressive accolades, which include a Pulitzer Prize, validate his selection as the Halftime Show headliner.

The announcement has led to significant online discussions and controversy, particularly among fanbases divided over the decision. In his new track, Lamar touches on existing tensions in the music scene, rapping, "Just walked that man down, that'll do everyone a solid / It's love but tough love, sometimes you gotta result in violence." The cover art for the single prominently features a pair of weathered black Air Force 1 sneakers, leading fans to speculate about potential references to Lamar's well-documented feud with rapper Drake, particularly relating to Drake's track "Push Ups," which playfully hinted at Kendrick's shoe size.

Additionally, Lamar mentions various notable figures within the music industry, including Terrace Martin and Christian rapper Lecra, making a nod to media personality DJ Akademiks. He takes a critical stance on media practices with the line, "The radio personality pushing propaganda for salary / Let me know when they turn up as a casualty."
