British band Lakes have officially released their new EP, The Stitches EP, on September 6, 2024, via Big Scary Monsters. This project marks a notable moment for the group as it introduces two new members, Cat Rowland and Marcus Gooda, alongside established frontman Roberto Cappellina. Following their acclaimed album Elysian Skies, which garnered significant praise for its emotive melodies and lyrical depth, The Stitches EP expands on their signature sound while embracing the fresh perspectives their new members bring.

The EP consists of three tracks, with the lead single 'Stitches' leading the charge. This track showcases Lakes' ability to blend anthemic choruses with intricate arrangements, highlighting the dual vocal harmonies between Rowland and Cappellina. The gentle intricacies paired with a sense of charm make 'Stitches' an inviting opener.

The second track, 'Nothing Surprises', continues the band's exploration of contemporary emo infused with a breezy sound, even while its lyrics delve into heavier themes. This juxtaposition is emblematic of Lakes' talent in merging lightness with depth.

The final track features UK math rock stalwart Henry Tremain of TTNG, presenting an acoustic ballad that amplifies the emotional resonance cleanly articulated throughout the EP. The collaboration reinforces Lakes' growing reputation as ambassadors of the UK emo/math scene through their unique approach to various musical influences.

The Stitches EP has been well received, earning a score of 9/10 in early reviews and increasing anticipation around Lakes' upcoming projects. Fans interested in hearing the EP can pre-order it through the band’s official page.
