Midland, the persona of artist Harry Agius, has officially announced the upcoming release of his debut album, titled 'Fragments Of Us', which is scheduled to drop on October 4 via his imprint, Graded. The announcement comes alongside the launch of the album's lead single, 'Never Enough', which showcases a deep, synth-infused sound that evolves from a downtempo vibe to a more energetic tone, illustrating Midland's personal and musical growth.
The forthcoming album consists of 13 tracks, celebrating queer identity and the theme of "otherness." Midland's unique musical journey spans over a decade, making this debut a significant milestone in his career. Notably, 'Fragments Of Us' features samples from prominent LGBTQIA+ figures, including Marlon Riggs, David Wojnarowicz, and Luke Howard of Horse Meat Disco. Through these samples, Midland not only cues in on personal narratives but also reflects on the historical context of the AIDS crisis, transforming the album into both a musical and historical document.
The cover art, personally shot by Midland, features his brother, who shares a queer identity and has experienced profound loss during the AIDS crisis in the 1990s. Midland describes 'Fragments Of Us' as a tribute to the people and experiences that have shaped him, stating, "I have rushed many things in my life but not this, and it feels liberating to be on the precipice of releasing something that took shape in the way this did."
As anticipation builds for the album's release, Midland is set to perform at the Waterworks Festival on September 14, where he will share the stage with other notable artists such as Moxie, NIKS, and Michelle Manetti.
