The latest installment in the iconic Killed By Death compilation series, 'Killed By Death British D.I.Y. - Vol.1 1998,' has recently made its debut, illuminating the often overlooked punk bands from the late 1970s and 1980s British D.I.Y. scene. The compilation, featuring a mix of lo-fi and more polished tracks, serves as a tribute to the underground sounds that thrived during this era.

This edition kicks off with the handclap singalong "Orders" by LONDON PX from 1981. It continues to showcase two tracks from the 1979 EP 'Deadbeat Revival' by HORNSEY AT WAR, before seamlessly transitioning into contributions from bands like the PETTICOATS, MUD HUTTERS, and PURITAN GUITARS. The eclectic tracklist reflects the diverse range of artists included, as it also highlights the famous DISCO ZOMBIES and THE SODS, wrapping the first side with their organ-infused classic "No Pictures".

Among the notable songs, one can find the quirky "Fish From Tahiti" by 012, a track included on the 'Weird Noise' compilation. The compilation culminates with "The Nose One" by SHOES THIS HIGH, who, though based in New Zealand, are representative of the wider D.I.Y. movement across regions.

The project is touted as the final missing piece of the KBD series, with a promising outlook for a sequel in the near future. Enthusiasts of punk and those curious about the intricacies of the D.I.Y. scene will find this collection particularly worthy of exploration, with a blend of both familiar and obscure tracks that speak to the punk ethos.
