Simon Fisher Turner has unveiled a full-length film to accompany his new album, Instability of The Signal, which is set to make waves in the music and film communities alike. The film, directed by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Isao Yamada, captures the essence of their decades-long friendship, presenting a personal glimpse into their collaboration through intimate visuals. Yamada’s unique approach to filmmaking, characterized by his use of 8mm film, brings a distinct aesthetic to the project, dubbed Yamavicascope.

Fisher Turner’s album, featuring 13 tracks, showcases his return to singing after a significant hiatus, marking a notable evolution in his extensive career. The compositions blend sound snippets with classical strings, field recordings, and the artist’s own voice. In the album, tracks like Barefeet and I Can't Hear Anything are not only accompanied by the film but also present a rich tapestry of sound reflecting the artist's experimental roots.

On October 23, Fisher Turner will celebrate his 70th birthday with a special performance at Caf OTO, sharing the stage with The Elysian Collective, a group he has collaborated with for over 20 years. In addition, legendary Flamenco guitarist Tito Heredia will perform, further enriching the evening’s program. The film's artistic influence parallels the themes explored in the album, taking audiences on a journey through memory and sound. Fisher Turner describes the process of creating the album as a significant and personal milestone, stating, "This time, I'm not hiding anything."

For those interested in experiencing the nuanced layers of Instability of The Signal, the album is available for purchase and streaming online, and the accompanying film can be viewed through various distribution channels.
