A new authorized documentary on the life of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix is currently in the works, as reported by NME. Directed by Bao Nguyen, known for his work on The Greatest Night In Pop—a Netflix documentary that chronicled the creation of the iconic charity single 'We Are The World'—this film marks the first time Hendrix's estate has approved a full-length feature about his life.

The documentary is titled Jimi and it will focus on a pivotal time in music history, particularly Hendrix's years in London, culminating with his spectacular performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. The film aims to capture the spirit of the 1960s music scene and illustrate Hendrix's meteoric rise to superstardom.

Speaking about this undertaking, Nguyen expressed his gratitude and the immense responsibility that comes with telling Hendrix's story. "Telling the story of Jimi Hendrix during his pivotal years in London is both a profound honor and a unique responsibility," he stated. Nguyen emphasized his goal of portraying the vibrancy of Hendrix's artistic journey and the cultural impact he left on music.

Jimi’s sister, Janie Hendrix, has endorsed the project, appreciative of Nguyen's previous work highlighting influential pop culture figures. "This presentation of Jimi's London experience will be inspiring and informative—a story told the way it should be," she remarked.

The documentary is expected to provide an insightful reflection on Hendrix's legacy, which continues to resonate in today's musical landscape, particularly through various unauthorized documentaries produced in the past few years.
