The controversy erupted after the Bronx rapper shared images on her Instagram account, which included a sonogram of her son alongside two photos of herself posed on a motorcycle in front of a wall tagged with the word "pedophile."
Speculation arose on social media, with many users suggesting that the tag was a pointed reference to Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender due to a conviction for attempted rape at the age of 17. Although Petty is not accused of any pedophilia-related offenses, many fans drew connections to the graffiti based on his legal background, as well as Minaj's brother, Jelani Maraj, who is serving a lengthy prison sentence for raping an 11-year-old.
Responding to the backlash, Cardi B took to her own Twitter to clarify the situation. "First of all, we literally picked a random street because paparazzi was hounding us everywhere," she tweeted. She emphasized that the shoot was rushed and not intended as a jab at Minaj, adding, "I'm ALWAYS with the shits but I'm not using MY MATERNITY shoot to be funny. Are you dumb?"
The ongoing feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj dates back to 2017, following media portrayals that pitted the two artists against each other.
