In a collaborative project in London, musicians Courtney Love, Thurston Moore, Deb Googe from My Bloody Valentine, and Adrian Utley of Portishead have joined forces to cover songs by renowned singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull. This initiative has gained traction through confirmations from various sources and recent mentions in social media posts.
The artists convened at Konk Studios, the iconic studio facility owned by the legendary British band The Kinks. The project is being produced by Rob Ellis, who is known for his long-standing collaboration with PJ Harvey. On September 10, Googe shared images from the studio on Instagram, expressing her enthusiasm with the caption, "I spent a day in the Kinks' studio, covering Marianne Faithfull songs."
Utley also voiced his excitement about the undertaking, describing it as an exceptional blend of music and film. However, many specifics regarding the project's ultimate aims remain undisclosed, further amplifying the intrigue surrounding this ensemble of musicians, especially considering Faithfull's lasting impact on the music industry.
Last December, a tribute album titled 'The Faithfull: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull' was released, featuring covers by various artists, including notable tracks performed by Iggy Pop and Cat Power, showcasing 19 songs originally by Faithfull.
In addition, she is preparing to auction several personal items through Sotheby's, including memorabilia tied to her fashion partnerships.
In related news, Courtney Love's recent studio sessions with former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur have sparked speculations about a potential revival of Hole. Although Love had downplayed the prospect previously, recent performances, including one alongside Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, have rekindled interest in the group's return after more than two decades since the duo last collaborated. As the narrative develops, music fans are eagerly awaiting updates on both the covers project and Love's future efforts in music.
