Today, New Orleans artist Dawn Richard and multi-instrumentalist and composer Spencer Zahn have released their third single titled 'Diets' from their forthcoming album 'Quiet In A World Full Of Noise', which is set to drop on October 4th via Merge Records. 'Diets' follows the prelude singles 'Breath Out' and 'Traditions', continuing the duo's exploration of ambient-RnB piano compositions.
Lyrically, 'Diets' serves as a site of spiritual cleansing, with Richard articulating her experiences of shedding toxic relationships for self-preservation. In her passionate delivery, she expresses clarity and vulnerability, marking a thematic pivot towards introspection.
'Quiet In A World Full Of Noise' is the pair's second collaborative album, following their 2022 release, 'Pigments'. The album's inception began in early 2023 in upstate New York, where Zahn faced personal upheaval. His creative response took the form of intricate piano pieces inspired by his experiences following a break-up. Commenting on his process, Zahn remarked, "I wrote all these stream-of-consciousness pieces on piano, and they were eerie, spacious tracks."
Six months later, Zahn revisited his recordings and shared them with Richard, who recognized their potential for an album. During the creative process, Richard delved deep into her personal traumas, stating, "I went into the studio— I did not write this down— and purged it out... it was honestly the hardest thing I've ever done." She emphasized the unique vulnerability she experiences while working with Zahn, stating, "There's a vulnerability that I tap into that I don't do with anyone else."
