On August 26, 2024, J Balvin announced Mexico City as the second launch city for his new album, Rayo, alongside Medellín. This event marks a significant connection for Balvin, as the album reflects his nostalgic memories tied to his first car, Rayo, and the journey of his early musical career.

In an interview with Hypebeast, Balvin explained that the concept for Rayo developed organically rather than through a structured planning process. He stated, "It was more about me going to the studio and simply enjoying myself. It reminded me of my beginnings - a time when I made music just for my family." This sentiment is echoed throughout the album, which features 15 tracks, including collaborations with emerging artists like Bad Gyal and Carn Len.

Discussing his approach to featuring artists, Balvin emphasized the importance of collaboration and support for new talent. He mentioned, "I make music with all of these emerging talents because I like what they do, it’s truly genuine."

Produced under the creative guidance of O'Neill, the album is poised for extensive promotion. Balvin noted the unique qualities of Mexican urban fashion, further strengthening his ties to the country. "Mexico is possibly one of the most influential in urban fashion. There's a beautiful influence in the way people incorporate cultural elements into fashion."

The album is designed not just for auditory enjoyment but also aims to be visually impactful, with Balvin promising an immersive live experience in the upcoming tour, set to kick off in the United States and travel to Latin America.
