New Sync Marketplace 'Catalog' Set To Revolutionise Music Licensing
DMY has joined 20 leading independent labels as a founding partner in Catalog, a new music licensing platform launched by Too Young Ltd., a leader in music supervision and audio post-production. This innovative initiative was announced on September 13, 2024, and aims to streamline music licensing, maximizing the artistic and monetization potential of exceptional songs in audiovisual media.

The development of Catalog arises from a collaborative effort with notable names in the independent music sphere, including !K7, Beggars Group, Ninja Tune, and others. It was first introduced during the AIM Connected event, a key networking conference focused on independent music.

The sync licensing process has struggled to keep pace with the increasing demand for quality music in visual media, leading producers to rely heavily on generic stock music. In 2023 alone, the market for stock music was valued at $1.3 billion, constituting around 80% of all music used in media today. This reliance on generic sound diminishes the quality of productions and limits meaningful opportunities for independent artists.

Catalog aims to address these challenges by presenting a curated selection of high-quality and diverse music, significantly easing the licensing process through its automated workflows, user-friendly interface, and transparent pricing strategies. The platform’s features include an extensive music catalog available for licensing, song and artist profiling, and real-time market estimates for licensing rights.

Frederic Schindler, CEO of Catalog, emphasized that the platform is designed to elevate quality music use in visual media, benefiting artists, producers, and rights holders alike. The early access applications for Catalog opened in September 2024, with a private beta launch expected in Q1 2025. Music supervisors and buyers can sign up for updates and gain insights into this transformative platform. Catalog's mission focuses on fostering an ethical and sustainable ecosystem for music licensing, offering great potential for independent artists to reclaim their space in the sync market.
