Mumbai-based musician REVANT has unveiled his latest EP, MOSS, which was self-released on September 8, 2024. The EP features four tracks that explore ambient and electroacoustic soundscapes characterized by their loops and evolving structures. Critics note the thoughtful, gripping nature of MOSS, blending mellow tones with experimental depth.

The opening track, 43, starts with subtle reversed tonalities and blends noisy, percussive elements set at a lower volume, gradually building to a complex sound palette. The composition utilizes a primary audio loop that contrasts its abstract elements with organic sound, creating a cohesive auditory experience. A notable section shifts from tonal sounds to evolving beats and textures that evoke imagery reminiscent of horror film scores.

The standout track, GAMEHEAD, begins with field recordings paired with ethereal sounds. It unfolds as a pastoral loop and shows clear influences from the electroacoustic sensibility found in His Name Is Alive's 1990 album Livonia. The subtle flange effect and heightened pitches contribute to its mesmerizing quality, ultimately producing a serene finale.

Closing out the EP, sorryfather juxtaposes familial themes through formal faith-based music motifs, integrating an organ loop with background elements that provide a seamless flow. Collectively, MOSS presents itself as a significant addition to the ambient landscape, inviting listeners into its immersive textures. The EP is available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp.
