The newly formed band, The None, consisting of members from various iconic bands, is set to release their debut EP titled 'MATTER' on August 29, 2024. The quartet, made up of bassist Gordon Moakes (known for his work with Bloc Party), guitarist Jim Beck, drummer Chris Francombe, and vocalist Kaila Whyte, has quickly gained attention for their seamless chemistry and energetic sound.
The None diverges from the traditional notion of a 'supergroup,' as the members approach their collaboration with humility and a shared focus on serving their songs. Their journey began when Moakes, after returning to the U.K. from the U.S., reached out to Beck. Soon after, Francombe joined, and the band’s full formation solidified with Weighte’s inclusion.
"It took ages to find Kaila, but once we connected, everything fell into place quickly," Moakes explained. The group describes their songwriting process as organic and collaborative, allowing each member to express their musicality freely. They cite influences such as USA Nails, Meat Wave, and Pissed Jeans, with a focus on creating a direct and engaging sound.
The band’s initial performances have garnered positive feedback, reinforcing their connection with audiences. They have upcoming engagements including a headline show in London at the Victoria, a performance at Supersonic Festival in Birmingham, and notable support slots alongside Metz in November. The quick approval from Metz for their support slot serves as a mark of recognition for The None.
