The Postal Service has announced the release of a new remix of their iconic track "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" by the acclaimed electro-pop duo, Sylvan Esso. This fresh interpretation of the song, which originally appeared on The Postal Service's seminal 2003 album Give Up, was unveiled on August 22, 2024, through Sub Pop Records. This release coincides with the band’s highly anticipated 20th anniversary tour, which will also celebrate Death Cab For Cutie’s notable album Transatlanticism, both deemed classics within the same year.
The remix comes ahead of the extended touring schedule, which kicks off with three dates in the UK and spans across several cities in Europe, including Cardiff, London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon. Tickets for these shows are already selling fast, reflecting strong demand following their recent sold-out tour across the United States. Both Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service and members of Sylvan Esso expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration. Gibbard commented, “I know for a fact I will never have a year again like 2003,” recalling the creative synergy that birthed both Give Up and Transatlanticism.
Fans can listen to the new remix here. The tour concludes with a performance at the All Points East festival in London on August 25, featuring a lineup that includes notable artists such as The Decemberists and Sleater-Kinney.
