In a significant development for independent music distribution, Cargo Records UK, Beggars Group, and Secretly Distribution have forged a new partnership under the banner of Cargo Independent Distribution (CID). This collaboration aims to enhance the strategic input, technology, and personnel resources available for independent distribution in the UK, adapting to the evolving needs of the music industry.

As part of this agreement, CID will leverage support from both Beggars Group and Secretly Distribution for operational investments. Cargo Records will contribute to physical distribution and sales support for Secretly Group and its affiliates, expanding sales representation for Beggars Group as well. Phil Hill, founder and CEO of Cargo Records UK, will lead the new entity.

The arrangement underscores a shared commitment among the partners to preserve an independent distribution avenue in the UK and Ireland. CID will offer physical, digital, and marketing services extending to a roster that includes notable labels such as Fire Records, Hyperdub, Planet Mu, and Sub Pop. Hill remarked, "We are really excited for our new partnership with two of the most important independent music companies... engaged in preserving a totally independent UK distribution outlet."

Darius Van Arman, CEO of Secretly Distribution, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the historical collaboration between Cargo and Secretly. This strategic alliance marks the inclusion of Secretly Group's labels like Dead Oceans and Jagjaguwar to CID's physical catalog. Meanwhile, Paul Redding, CEO of Beggars Group, highlighted the crucial need for a new independent route to market, reflecting the industry's current challenges.

The optimistically framed partnership aims to strengthen the independent distribution sector amidst rapidly changing market dynamics.
