Acclaimed songwriter Cass McCombs has unveiled a new compilation album titled Seed Cake On Leap Year, which features a selection of unreleased tracks from his early career. Released through Domino, the album comprises ten tracks recorded during McCombs' time in Berkeley, focusing on music that originated between 1999 and 2000.
This new compilation follows McCombs' recent reissuance of key EPs through 4AD, marking a return to his roots with a collection that offers a glimpse into the artist's formative years. The project was recorded in the apartment of producer Jason Quever at 924 Fulton in San Francisco, who would later become a significant collaborator for the musician.
Seed Cake On Leap Year captures the essence of an artist exploring new territory without the constraints of commercial expectations, showcasing the DIY spirit of the late '90s. It arrives in the wake of recent movements supporting independent musicians, featuring peers such as Papercuts, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, and Chris Cohen's Curtains.
The album is available for streaming now, with a physical CD and vinyl edition set to be released on November 8th. Fans can pre-order the album through Domino Mart to ensure they receive their copy as soon as it's available. To check out more about McCombs’ work and the compilation, visit his official page.
