Frontman Richard Patrick of Filter recently discussed the band's innovative approach to music with the release of The Algorithm KiTalbum. Following the initial release of their eighth studio album, The Algorithm, in August 2023, the band has now launched a hybrid physical and digital edition designed to deepen fan engagement.

The Algorithm examines the overwhelming nature of social media and technology, encapsulating Patrick's message: 'Don’t let the algorithm define you.' With this new KiTalbum version, fans can access the entire album through the KiTplayer app on their devices, featuring all songs, lyrics, liner notes, and exclusive content such as the new video for "Burn Out the Sun."

Patrick elaborated on the tactile aspect of this album format by showing it to his children. He expressed excitement about the combined physical and digital experience, noting, 'It’s tactile, it’s something that you can sell, it’s something that people can have.' The KiTalbum offers features like chat rooms, allowing fans to connect with one another.

Since their debut album, Short Bus, Filter has continuously embraced technology. Patrick recounted how he first ventured into home recording over 30 years ago. "We had a computer and ordered a four thousand dollar, one gigabyte hard drive. And we thought we were the shit," he reflected.

The Algorithm delves into complex themes surrounding modern technology, with songs addressing issues such as social media voyeurism and the implications of artificial intelligence. Notably, Patrick discovered rising guitarist Zach Munowitz through social media, who contributed to three tracks on the album.

As for the future, Patrick expressed interest in continuing the KiTalbum format for future releases, emphasizing how it provides fans a new way to collect and engage with music. The KiTalbum of The Algorithm is currently available for purchase here.
