The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ) is set to release a new album titled Hung Up On You, which is scheduled for launch on October 25, 2024. This upcoming album offers a fresh perspective as it diverges from the group’s typical jazz-funk and soul sound by incorporating earlier influences of punk and rock'n'roll. Founder James Taylor, who was also a member of the Medway garage band The Prisoners, has been actively involved in creating music both with JTQ and his original band since the pandemic.

In a recent statement, Taylor shared, "At the end of a long writing session for The Prisoners, I had quite a few tunes left over... I got my band JTQ to try them out in rehearsal." The band features various skilled musicians, including bassist Andrew, who also plays for Pulp. Taylor noted that their experimentation led to exciting combinations of funk, soul, and rock. The album will include the single 'She Dreams In Crimson,' which is expected to generate considerable buzz in anticipation of the full release. The vinyl edition will be limited to a special white pressing.

Apart from their studio work, the band has been involved in community service, with Taylor organizing fundraising efforts for Rochester Cathedral. This year’s event on November 12 will showcase performances from JTQ, BBC Big Band, and other notable acts, all in support of refugee awareness. Tickets for the various upcoming shows, including a two-night stint at London’s renowned Ronnie Scott's club, are available through various outlets. Full details of the Autumn tour dates will be released soon, confirming their commitment to performing live and supporting charitable causes at the same time.
