In an interview with NME, TWICE's Choi Tzuyu expressed her apprehensions surrounding her solo debut with the mini-album 'abouTZU', which was released in September 2024. As the youngest member of the highly acclaimed K-pop girl group, Tzuyu shared her journey from a reserved trainee to embracing her individuality as a solo artist.

In preparation for her debut, Tzuyu admitted to experiencing nervousness and self-doubt. "When it was first decided that I would go solo, I started to feel the nerves... I wondered whether I could really pull this off," she stated. Tzuyu indicated that this anxiety affected her sleep, as she grappled with the pressures that come with a solo career. This introspection ultimately sparked a conversation about her dreams, with Tzuyu recounting a particularly disturbing one that had left a lasting impact on her.

Throughout her career, Tzuyu has always identified as a more reserved person, often taking time to warm up to new individuals. However, the process of making 'abouTZU' offered her the chance to develop her confidence and musical voice. Tzuyu described this journey as initially daunting, especially as it necessitated tackling the songwriting process independently. "It didn’t come as naturally as I’d hoped," she reflected, detailing how she used her own experiences as inspiration for creating the album's lyrical narrative.

The final product features a range of themes from introspection on 'Lazy Baby' to emotional connection in 'Losing Sleep' and ultimately culminates in the heartfelt track 'Fly', which addresses the support of fans. Tzuyu articulated the significance of sharing her story through her lyrics, which not only serve as a message to her supporters but also as a personal reminder of her growth.

Reiterating her gratitude for her fellow TWICE members who have previously embarked on solo careers, Tzuyu emphasized the importance of their support in overcoming her initial reluctance to step out on her own. As she progresses in her musical career, the singer continues to embrace this new chapter, seeking to reveal different aspects of her personality to fans. Tzuyu's 'abouTZU' is available now on popular streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music.

In light of her journey, Tzuyu is not just sharing her artistry but also inviting listeners to explore her evolving self, symbolized by the title 'abouTZU', which plays on the concept of knowing oneself.
